With over two decades of experience in the industry, Michael Lee has become one of the most sought-after commercial directors in the region. His previous experience as a National sportsman has molded his character to push for excellence within every minute and every second, resulting in commercials that stand out from the crowd.
Michael’s career started in 1994 when he became a video editor in the Mediacorp Singapore. His talent and hard work soon caught the attention of famous directors, such as Tsui Hark, Johnny To, Gordon Chan, and Peter MacDonald, who entrusted him as an assistant director and line producer.
In 2000, Michael stepped up and became a commercial director, making commercials in China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia. His previous experience as an editor allowed him to create beautifully composed cinematography, often augmented by clever edit and post-production that embodies his sharp craftsmanship and whimsical imagery.
Over the years, Michael has directed numerous ads for prestigious brands such as Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, NIO, Disney, Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Lego, Huawei, Nescafe, Ponds, Nivea, P&G, Walls ice creams, Nestle, and more. He has worked with reputable advertising agencies like Ogilvy, DDB worldwide, McCann Erickson, Dentsu, Lowe, Asatsu Japan, etc.
Michael’s outstanding works have been honored and nominated in Cannes Advertising, America’s19th Telly Awards, Asia Pacific Advertising Awards, China’s Shooting Awards, Indonesia Advertising Awards, and many more. He also received his Contribution Award from Wen Jiabao (former prime minister of China) for his 5.12 Sichuan earthquake charity TVC.
